Our psychotherapy services are covered by most insurance plans but it is best to consult your provider in advance to avoid any confusion. Our services can be provided on a sliding scale based upon income and individual needs where appropriate. Please reach out to discuss your unique situation.
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that can help individuals who are experiencing a wide array of mental health conditions and emotional challenges. Psychotherapy not only alleviates symptoms, but can also help identify root causes of major issues to enhance emotional well-being and healing. Psychotherapy can be short-term to deal with more immediate challenges or longer-term to deal with longstanding and complex issues. The goals of treatment and the duration and frequency of treatment are determined collaboratively by the patient and therapist. Research shows that most people who receive psychotherapy experience symptom relief and are better able to function in their lives. At the Centre for Hope and Recovery, we offer a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to the individual client to increase the likelihood of success. All of our therapists are licensed to practice psychotherapy in Ontario and adhere to strict ethical standards of care. In order to ensure you would benefit from our services and are a good match with our clinicians, we offer a free 15-minute assessment that can be conducted in-person or virtually through our secure online platform.
Within our group therapy programs, clients work in a collaborative and safe space with others who share common experiences. We try to maintain small groups of clients, which we believe increases the therapeutic value of the program. Normally, groups are two-hours in length and run once a week for six to eight weeks, depending on the topic. Often, additional work is required outside of the group setting in preparation for each session. While group members are a valuable source of support, group psychotherapy sessions offer benefits beyond informal self-help or support groups. Group therapy sessions are led by psychotherapists with specialized training who provide valuable insight and feedback. Group work can be highly impactful when dealing with issues involving shame, stigma, or feelings of isolation. As such, we believe that trauma and addiction topics work well in a group setting. All the same ethical and confidentiality requirements of psychotherapy remain in place during group sessions.
At the Centre for Hope and Recovery, we are committed to offering services that are grounded in evidence. We also believe that lived experience is a powerful tool that can provide a much needed perspective when designing and conducting research. As such, we actively seek to collaborate with academics and other research organizations in order to provide the voice of those struggling with trauma and addictions. We are available to partner on research grants that require collaborators with lived experience in areas such as mental health, addictions, and trauma. Beyond the value of our lived experience, we also have significant research and statistical expertise that provides a unique and valuable contribution. We have PhD trained staff who can meaningfully participate in grant writing, research design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript writing. Specifically, we have experience with meta-analytic techniques, survey design, focus groups, interviewing, and various quantitative and qualitative data analytic techniques.
One in every five Canadians at some point in their lifetime experience an issue with substances. Many of us also struggle with other addictive behaviours such as gambling, gaming, pornography, or overeating. These issues impact us in profound ways and are commonplace within our families, our friendships, and our workplaces. At the Centre for Hope and Recovery, we are passionate about sharing our message of hope with groups of any shape or size. Our goal is to help reduce the stigma and shame associated with substance use disorder and other addictive behaviours in order to improve the lives of those in our community. Our personal stories offer a powerful and inspiring message that recovery is possible for everyone! We offer keynote sessions on a number of impactful topics and can work with you to develop interactive workshops designed to meet the goals of any event.
