About
The Centre for Hope and Recovery was born out of a genuine desire to be of service to our community through a more effective approach to healing. All the staff at the Centre have navigated the mental health and addiction systems as clients and experienced what it’s like to be on the other side of the desk. When we encountered someone with empathy and understanding, as opposed to sympathy and judgement, we could feel the difference. Oftentimes, the modalities we were exposed to felt tired and outdated leaving us wondering if there was any evidence for their use. This is why we decided to focus on three fundamental elements: lived experience, clinical excellence, and evidence-based therapy.
- Profound Lived Experience
- Clinical Excellence
- Evidence-based Therapy
Lived experience increases the likelihood that the therapist sitting across from you understands your reality, deeply. It also creates a non-judgemental alliance between you and your therapist that enhances healing. Clinical excellence ensures that the person you are entrusting with your deepest revelations can receive your vulnerability with skill and grace. And grounding our approach in the latest evidence allows us to offer you the most effective treatment options to meet your needs.

We also understood that not everyone who would benefit from our services will have private insurance or be able to afford the full cost of psychotherapy. As a result, we made a decision to accept clients regardless of their financial circumstances and, when necessary, offer sliding scale payment options. So far, it has worked out! Most clients have insurance or can afford to pay our standard rates, which allows us to offer subsidized spots to those who would benefit from a reduced fee.
Finally, we decided to create a warm and inviting physical space for our clients so we could offer in-person psychotherapy services and groups. While therapy can be effective in a virtual environment, we felt it was important to have a safe and comfortable space where we could connect directly with our clients. Because our clients do sometimes require on-line appointments, we also invested in a secure virtual platform. We often move seamlessly between in-person and virtual services as the client’s needs shift and flow during treatment.
The Centre for Hope and Recovery is the end result of our profound lived experiences as clients, our years of clinical education and training, and our research into the most effective treatment options for trauma, addiction, and other major life challenges. It is a passionate endeavour that we hope will have a positive impact on everyone seeking to heal.
